Hello, I am Dr. Sanjay Shitole, a dedicated educator and technology enthusiast. I’m currently serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology at Usha Mittal Institute of Technology for Women, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, India. My journey in academia began in 1992, and since then, I’ve been actively involved in teaching, research, and academic administration.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, I earned my Ph.D. from IIT Bombay in 2015. I have completed my Master’s in Computer Technology and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering. My academic journey extends beyond traditional teaching. I’ve presented research ideas at international conferences and workshops in places like Melbourne, Australia, and Frascati, Italy. I’ve authored many research papers in international and national conferences, earning recognition from the Indian Society of Remote Sensing.

I’m passionate about sharing knowledge and have conducted over twenty one-day workshops at various universities, focusing on topics like “LaTeX, Xfig, for publishing research.” I’ve even authored a book titled “Electrical Network.”

I actively participate in academic committees, serving as a Member of the Board of Studies in Computer Science and Information Technology. I also engage in evaluating Ph.D. research proposals at different universities and have been invited as a keynote speaker in international conferences. Additionally, I’ve held important positions as the Secretary and Treasurer of the IEEE-GRSS Bombay Chapter.

Expanding My Horizons

In 2020, I decided to broaden my horizons by pursuing a Diploma in Yogic Education. This holistic approach to education has added a unique dimension to my career, enabling me to better understand the mind-body connection and its relevance in the field of information technology.

My Research

My academic journey is not confined to the classroom. I have been actively engaged in research, securing funding for projects such as “Development of Machine Learning Tools for Speckle Reduction and Urban Applications” from NASA-ISRO. My research interests span across topics like wetlands, synthetic aperture radar data analysis, and the characterization of Mumbai mangroves. As a Ph.D. supervisor, I’ve had the privilege of guiding numerous students in their research work, with several ongoing projects.

Academic Engagement

I maintain a strong online presence through my website and social media profiles. I actively participate in IEEE and other professional societies and have a list of publications to my name. I’ve been recognized for my research contributions, served as a judge and session chair at conferences, and conducted tutorials, all contributing to the academic community.

Teaching and Skill Development

In my teaching role, I’ve covered a wide range of subjects, including Digital Signal Processing, Digital Image Processing, Computer Communication, Neural Network, and Fuzzy Logic.  My commitment to both teaching and learning is evident through my involvement in faculty development programs, workshops, and seminars. I’ve also coordinated workshops and served on various university committees, highlighting my active engagement within the academic community.

Beyond Academia

As a BOS member and the Head of the Department of Information Technology, I’ve been instrumental in starting a credit course on Geospatial Technology at SNDT Women’s University. I’ve also been actively involved in enriching students’ experiences with value-added courses. Additionally, I’ve been managing the Solar-powered weather station of SNDT Women’s University in collaboration with CUNY University Professors since 2022. I’m also handling the responsibilities of the Centre for Holistic Education, Training, and Novel Advancements (CHETNA) as the SNDTWU Juhu Campus Coordinator.

I’m passionate about education, technology, and research. My journey in academia has been marked by continuous learning and growth, and I look forward to more exciting challenges and opportunities in the ever-evolving world of information technology and education. Thank you for visiting my website and getting to know more about my work and passions..
